Tasting Notes

Opaque crimson with an inky core and purple rim. Aromas of blackberry, black plum and mulberry dominate, with layers of espresso, graphite and smoked meats adding intrigue. The palate is powerful yet composed, delivering dense black fruits, liquorice and dark chocolate wrapped in fine, firm tannins. A wine of impressive concentration and length, with savoury oak integration providing depth and complexity. This is a statement Shiraz designed for the cellar but already showing its pedigree in the glass.

Winemaking

Select parcels of old-vine Shiraz from premium Marananga vineyards were harvested in the cool of night to retain freshness and fruit purity. Fermentation was carried out in small, temperature-controlled fermenters with regular pump overs to extract colour and tannin. Following fermentation, the wine was basket pressed and transferred to 100% French oak hogsheads, of which 40% were new. After 20 months maturation, only the finest barrels were selected for the No.1 Shiraz blend.
