A classic Barossa powerhouse with all the richness and swagger you expect from Craneford. The colour sits deep and inky with a flicker of vibrant red at the rim. The nose is pure Barossa Shiraz with lifted blackberry, black plum and warm spice supported by subtle smoky oak and a touch of cedar.
The palate is dense, plush and fully loaded with ripe mulberry, dark plums and liquorice. Oak is seamless and beautifully integrated, adding polish without overwhelming the fruit. Tannins are savoury, persistent and built for structure, giving the wine impressive depth. The finish rolls on with dark spice and generosity, leaving a bold, memorable impression.
Rich. Opulent. Unmistakably Barossa. The Firestation is back in top form for 2022.
The fruit was handpicked in the cool of the morning during the 2022 Barossa harvest, a season known for its lower yields and concentrated, high quality fruit. Grapes were crushed into a small fermenter and worked with gentle, regular hand pump overs across the two week ferment, keeping close control over colour, tannin and flavour.
Once dry, the wine was pressed off skins and transferred into American oak hogsheads with around forty percent new. After malolactic fermentation, it was racked and returned to the same barrels. Maturation ran for roughly 24 months before blending. The best barrels were selected to make the final wine, which was then prepared for bottling.
98 Points - Vino Masters
A powerhouse Shiraz; bold, explosive and unapologetically Barossa. Layers of black fruit, sarsaparilla and dark chocolate collide with clove, spice and smoky oak to create a wine of immense impact and drive.
Rich, full-bodied and mouth-filling, it roars with black tapenade, black mint, and espresso tones wrapped in muscular tannins. There’s nothing shy about
this wine; it’s built to impress and made to share with mates who love big reds.
Not for the faint-hearted. Immense, spicy and unforgettable.
96 Points - Wine Pilot
A powerful expression, the enticing bouquet shows dark fruit richness, baking spice, vanilla, and
cedar characters with a hint of chocolate. It's opulent and mouth-filling on the palate with
outstanding weight and depth, wonderfully structured by a plush texture and grainy tannins,
finishing long and gratifying. At its best: now to 2040. $130.00. Sept 2025.
The 2022 vintage in the Barossa delivered outstanding quality, driven by a cooler season, slow ripening and smaller crops. Mild conditions across summer meant the vines never saw extreme heat spikes, allowing fruit to develop deep colour and rich flavour without losing freshness. Yields were down after a tricky flowering, but the berries that remained were concentrated, balanced and full of character.
Shiraz in particular thrived. Longer hang time built intensity and depth, while the cooler finish to the season helped retain lift and aromatic detail. Winemakers across the valley saw excellent natural structure, vibrant fruit and a clear sense of place.
For Craneford, 2022 gave us classic Barossa power with extra precision and polish. A strong year that will age beautifully.
