Tasting Notes

Deep ruby red with a vibrant purple edge. The nose reveals ripe black cherry, blueberry and cassis, lifted by hints of pepper, cedar and dark spice. The palate is plush and generous, with layers of dark fruit, cocoa and vanilla bean. Basket pressing provides a finer tannin profile, lending the wine elegance and finesse while retaining richness and Barossa power. A silky texture carries through to a long, balanced finish.

Winemaking

Harvested from select Barossa Shiraz vineyards at peak ripeness, the fruit was destemmed and fermented in open fermenters. Following primary fermentation, the wine was basket pressed – a traditional method that gently extracts juice while minimising harsh tannins. Malolactic fermentation was completed in French oak hogsheads, with 30% new oak. The wine was matured for 18 months before bottling to showcase both fruit vibrancy and oak complexity.

Vintage Report

The 2023 season delivered excellent Shiraz across the Barossa. Consistent conditions and a long, mild ripening period resulted in fruit with deep colour and supple tannins. Basket pressing highlighted purity of fruit and enhanced textural finesse. This vintage is marked by balance and generosity, with wines that are approachable now but have the structure to age gracefully.
